Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Fez → Ifrane → Cedar Forests → Midelt

Departure from Fez at 8:00 AM. Our first stop is Ifrane, known as "Little Switzerland" due to its alpine-style architecture and cool mountain climate. This charming town offers a stark contrast to the imperial cities of Morocco.

Continuing through the Middle Atlas, we'll stop in the ancient cedar forests near Azrou. These majestic forests are home to the endangered Barbary macaques, the only wild monkey species in Africa. You'll have the opportunity to observe these playful creatures in their natural habitat.

We'll enjoy lunch in a local restaurant before continuing to Midelt, a mining town nestled between the Middle and High Atlas mountains. This area is famous for its mineral deposits and beautiful apple orchards.

Overnight: Hotel in Midelt
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Driving time: 4-5 hours
Walking: Easy walks in forest

Day 2 Ziz Valley → Erfoud → Merzouga → Camel Trek → Desert Camp

After breakfast, we'll descend from the mountains into the spectacular Ziz Valley, home to one of the world's largest palm groves. The drive through this oasis offers stunning views of traditional Berber villages and endless date palm plantations.

Our next stop is Erfoud, Morocco's fossil capital. Here you can visit workshops where local craftsmen turn ancient fossils into beautiful decorative items. The area is renowned for its trilobites and ammonites dating back millions of years.

Upon arrival in Merzouga, we'll meet our camel handlers and embark on a magical sunset camel trek across the Erg Chebbi dunes. These towering golden sands stretch as far as the eye can see, creating one of Morocco's most iconic landscapes.

We'll arrive at our desert camp as the sun sets, painting the sky in brilliant oranges and purples. Dinner will be enjoyed around a campfire under a blanket of stars, accompanied by traditional Berber music and storytelling.

Overnight: Traditional desert camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Driving time: 3-4 hours
Camel trek: 1-1.5 hours

Day 3 Sunrise over Dunes → Rissani → Tafilalt Oasis → Fez

Rise early to witness one of nature's most spectacular shows - the sunrise over the Sahara dunes. The changing colors of the sand as the sun climbs higher is a truly magical experience that will stay with you forever.

After breakfast, we'll trek back to Merzouga village where our vehicle awaits. We'll then drive to Rissani, an important historical town that was once the capital of the Tafilalt region. The bustling market here offers an authentic glimpse into local life.

We'll explore the Tafilalt oasis, one of Morocco's largest and most fertile oases. This area has been an important trading post for centuries and is dotted with ancient ksours (fortified villages) and palm groves.

In the afternoon, we'll begin our return journey to Fez, arriving in the evening. The drive takes us back through the Ziz Valley and over the Middle Atlas mountains, offering different perspectives of the landscapes we crossed two days earlier.
